Job Title:                    BBC Young Ambassador

Location:                    BBC North, MediaCityUK, Salford

Hours:                        Full Time (35 hours) for a maximum of 3 months

Pay:                             £3.79 per hour for 16 and 17 year olds

£5.13 per hour for 18 and 19 year olds

We are looking for local young people to work in a variety of customer-facing and administrative roles. You will support our teams by welcoming and looking after our guests and facilities, and by helping out at the many internal and external events on site.  We need people who can represent the BBC positively and enthusiastically to visitors and our local communities; and who can also represent their local community positively to BBC staff and visitors. This is a great opportunity for those who enjoy meeting new people and want to develop their skills and gain experience that they can put on their CV. It is also a fantastic chance to be involved in a huge part of the BBC’s history – the development of a major new centre in Salford.

There will be opportunities to get involved in a whole range of areas with our partners at Interserve and find out more about how buildings and events are managed. You will work across 4 different areas at BBC North:

Events: helping to prepare for Events held on site, eg. working with excel spreadsheets and email. On the day support for events on site eg. meeting and greeting guests

Workplace Support (Housekeeping): setting up meeting rooms, replacing stocks on floors, check equipment is working, monitoring staff lockers etc.

Reception: welcoming visitors to the BBC, answering the reception phone-line, processing visitor ID passes and car park passes etc

Post room: helping out our busy post room and porter services, helping with deliveries across BBC North.

Please note this role is not a production role, so you will not be working on making programmes.

Is this role for you?

This role has been designed as a first job, aimed at local 16-19 year olds, who may have limited or no experience of the world of work. The kind of person you are and your attitude to work is much more important to us than your knowledge, experience or qualifications.

Through this job, each Young Ambassador will develop a range of skills that will be valuable for their CV and for them in their future.  They will increase their experience and confidence of working with others, dealing with members of the public and understanding how large buildings and events are managed.  These skills can be used in a number of jobs and in particular roles that require customer service knowledge.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of some areas within Salford or Trafford which you can talk to others about
  • No qualifications are required and, if you have them, they should not be higher than Level 2/GCSE.
  • No qualifications above GCSE’s accepted

Experience

  • Little or no experience within a work environment

Skills

  • Good communication and relationship skills

  • Resident in either Salford or Trafford local authority areas
