£18,200 per annum pro rata, £10.00 per hour
21 hours per week (including some evening and weekends)

This is a fantastic opportunity to come and work for one of the country’s leading organisations for blind and visually impaired people. Henshaws Society for Blind People is a dynamic, vibrant and energetic provider of care and support for blind and visually impaired people of all ages across the North of England.
Funded by BBC Children in Need, we are looking for a Children and Young People (CYP) enablement officer, to co-ordinate and deliver our new Henshaws Independence Matters Courses for Children and Young People. The six weekly courses are for CYP age 8-12 and 13-18 and will run once a week after school, on Saturdays or in the school summer holiday, plus a one day workshop per course for parents.
This is a unique opportunity to work with partially sighted and blind children and young people, helping them to become more independent. Your role will be to support CYP through the six week program providing sessions around building confidence and self esteem, cooking, social and interpersonal skills, daily living skills and transitions and planning for the future.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Experience of working with children or young people aged 0 to 18 years or supporting families and carers in group activities and/or one to one activities
- A knowledge of disability, in particular visual impairment
· A qualification in teaching/childcare/youth work/Rehab or habilitation/social care
- Availability to work flexible hours including evening and weekends to deliver the project
It would be advantageous to have prior experience of delivering skills programs and a knowledge of child development and promoting independence.
