This conference is brought to you jointly by Manchester City Council Adult Education Service and NIACE Centre for the Learning Family

Those involved in family learning have long recognised the vital role it plays in engaging hard to reach learners in their own communities, supporting them to progress and to develop their own skills and those of their children. Family learning can lead to families developing stronger ties, parents volunteering in schools and community settings, adults engaging in training, education and employment.

The current policy environment creates both challenges and opportunities for Family Learning Providers. Flexibilities in adult safeguarded funding; community budget pilots; the end of Family Learning Impact Funding; the Pupil Premium; commissioning; and local authority cuts, all point to the need for new and creative approaches - a challenge that Family Learning Providers are set to meet.

This joint conference will look at the positive steps that Family Learning Providers are taking to move forward in the current environment, and enable them to share ideas and experiences. It will include opportunities to look at ways of demonstrating the impact of family learning such as the Social Return on Investment model that NIACE has recently been using with Adult and Family Learning Providers.
