    Help the Homeless offers grants of up to £3,000 towards capital costs of projects that assist individuals to return to mainstream society. Funding is allocated mainly to small and medium-sized charities (with an annual turnover of up to £1 million). Grants to larger charities will only be considered if the project is very innovative and can only be developed by a large organisation.

    This is a new initiative from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) for civil servants to undertake short placements in your organisation. The Outreach programme aims to increase understanding and strengthen relationships between the department and its stakeholders.

    The Innovation Fund will provide up to £30 million over 3 years for social investment projects, paid on an outcome funded basis. The projects will support young people aged 14 and over who are disadvantaged or at risk of disadvantage.

     The Counselling and Family Centre are having a family fun day Sunday 14 August (2pm until 6pm) at their premises 40 Mayors Road, Altrincham.
    There will be fun and games including cookie baking, face painting, tombola and stalls.
    Entry is £1 per adult and 50p per child - price includes unlimited free cordial drinks.

    New research by the Institute for Employment Studies, which finds volunteering helps young people develop the skills and confidence that improve their chances of getting a job.

     A booklet of success stories and tips for volunteering with a criminal record has been published by the Manchester-based charity, Back on Track. The publication contains useful contact information for anyone involved in supporting volunteering by ex-offenders.

    It is aimed at those who advise and support ex-offenders, organisations that involve volunteers, and potential volunteers.

     The Charity Commission has revised its model governing documents to give trustees more flexibility over decisions relating to financial benefits for themselves and others connected to them.
    The new wording also brings the documents into line with the model constitutions of the new charitable incorporated organisation (CIO).

     The BT Community Connections scheme has opened for a second 2011 round.
    The awards scheme is intended to provide voluntary groups and charitable organisations working to benefit the community in the UK with IT equipment and internet access. Successful applicants to the programme will receive a laptop and a year's free broadband internet connection.
    In particular, the scheme is keen to target areas of deprivation which normally receive little or no funding and would otherwise have no IT provision.
