Your Local Pantry (www.yourlocalpantry.co.uk) is a network of member-run food clubs, initially developed by Stockport Homes. For a modest weekly membership fee of around £2.50, members can visit their local Pantry once a week to select at least 10 items of their own choosing from a wide selection of goods, including fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and dairy produce as well as ambient food and other essential items (eg toiletries).
The majority of food is supplied by FareShare Greater Manchester and other local sources of surplus food. To make sure the staples members need are always available the money collected from memberships is reinvested straight back into the Pantry buying additional stock and essential equipment. Unlike food banks, members can join without having to be referred; have the dignity of paying into the club; and they can remain members for as long as they like. Members are signposted to housing, energy and debt advice if they need it.
An estimated 1,200 households have benefited from membership of the four existing Stockport Pantries, saving them each typically £500-£750 a year on food bills. Collectively, members have saved an estimated £300,000 a year.

Speakers will include Patrick Butler from The Guardian and Chris Mould from The Shaftesbury Partnership and Trussell Trust.
